A telehandler or a telescopic handler is a machinery that is well-known within the agriculture and construction industries. These equipment are similar in function and appearance to a forklift or a lift truck but are really more like a crane instead of a forklift. The telehandler offers increased versatility of a single telescopic boom that can extend forwards as well as upwards from the vehicle. The operator can connect many attachments on the end of the boom. Some of the most common attachments consist of: a bucket, a muck grab, pallet forks or a lift table.
A telehandler usually uses pallet forks as their most common attachment in order to transport cargo through locations which are normally not reachable for a typical forklift. For instance, telehandlers can move cargo to and from areas that are not typically accessible by regular forklift models. These devices also have the ability to remove palletized cargo from inside a trailer and place these loads in high areas, like on rooftops for example. Before, this abovementioned situation would need a crane. Cranes can be expensive to use and not always a time-efficient or practical option.
One more advantage is also the telehandlers largest drawback: because the boom extends or raises when the machinery is bearing a load, it also acts as a lever and causes the vehicle to become quite unstable, despite the rear counterweights. This translates to the lifting capacity decreasing fast as the working radius increases. The working radius is the distance between the front of the wheels and the center of the load.
For example, a vehicle which has a five thousand pound capacity with the boom retracted may be able to safely raise just as heavy as four hundred pounds once it is completely extended with a low boom angle. The same unit with a five thousand pound lift capacity that has the boom retracted might be able to easily support as much as 10,000 lb. with the boom raised up to 70.
England first pioneered the telehandler within Horley, Surrey. The Matbro Company developed these machinery from their articulated cross country forestry forklifts. Initially, they had a centrally mounted boom design on the front portion. This positioned the driver's cab on the rear part of the machinery, as in the Teleram 40 model. The rigid chassis design with a rear mounted boom and the cab located on the side has since become more and more famous.
Side shifter: Side shifters are attachments that enable operators to laterally position the attachment arms for more effective load placement.
Forklift fork Positioner: The positioner is a hydraulic attachment that helps position the forks either simultaneously or separately, according to the load size. It relieves lift trucks operators from having to manually adjust the forks.

Telescopic forklift forks: These attachments enable the operator to unload and load vehicles from a single side. They allow the handling of two differently-sized pallets at the same time and are handy for double-deep racking.
Forklift carton clamp attachments: These hydraulic attachments make handling high-volume carton easier through the application of uniform clamping force. They are outfitted with arm pads lined with four-way reversible rubber. A backrest to the loads helps prevent damage to the loads.
Slip sheet attachment: Slip sheet forklift is an alternative to pallet systems. This hydraulic transport and storing system clamps onto the slip sheet to be able to draw it onto a thin and wide metal fork. Handy for shipping abroad and for intra-corporate deliveries.
