Propane powered forklifts are frequently utilized inside warehouses. The forklift is made with the propane tank mounted at the back of the operator. The tanks, which look a lot like beer kegs, have to be replaced every so often because they have a limited lifespan. Drivers of forklifts must always utilize caution when handling propane tanks. Compressed gases are really dangerous, especially since the gas is flammable. Always use care when removing and replacing propane tank to avoid being injured.
To change a propane tank, first stop the forklift while leaving the engine running, and turn the valve on the tank off. Let the forklift run until the engine dies. This procedure burns off the gas inside the transfer hose which connects the tank and the engine. Before taking the second steps, wear the proper safety equipment, like for instance insulated gloves made of either leather or neoprene. It is very important for you to protect your skin from touching the compressed gas, which is very cold.
Disconnect the hose from the tank and take the holding straps off to remove the tank. When you put in a new tank, tighten the nut to reattach the holding straps and to reconnect the hose at the valve of the tank.
You can inspect for leaks by applying soapy water to the valve and opening it slightly. Leaking gas would cause bubbles to froth around the value. If this occurs, inspect the valve area and the connection hose at the nut. The connecting nut should be re-tightened if you detect any leaks around the valve area, and after that do the leak inspection process once more. Persistent leaks mean that the connecting hose and nut would have to be replaced. However, if replacing the nut and hose still does not stop the leak, the tank must be replaced.
Finally, open the valve all the way to enable the gas to fill the connecting hose. Then you could start the forklift and continue working.
